ADAM LISTON

Adam Liston is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter, composer and producer living and working in London.

 

A week of research & development in 2013 marked the start of a regular and continuing collaboration with choreographer Temitope Ajose-Cutting. In 2016, Adam composed and performed a soundscape for her piece ‘Searching for the Dead’ at The Place, London. In 2019, they collaborated again, this time commissioned by artist Megan Rooney. Adam composed and produced music for a choreographed performance at the Lyon Biennale 2019 as part of Rooney’s site-specific installation ‘In the Hullaballoo of Midnight’. A fifty-minute episodic soundtrack, his composition
included found sounds and field recordings inspired by the industrial setting of the Fagor factory and ideas of redundancy and nostalgia. After some remote collaboration through the pandemic, he worked with Ajose-Cutting again in 2021 as
part of Choreodrome at The Place, composing and producing music for her solo work, Lady M (At Home with Lady Macbeth), which debuted over three nights in May 2023.

 

As part of Breakin’ Convention 2019 at Sadler's Wells, Adam arranged and performed the Funk track Kilimanjaro (The Shaolin Afronauts) for the dance piece ‘Musical Chairs’ by The Locksmiths Dance Company. He used live-looping to layer keyboards, bass, electric guitar, percussion, flute and stage acoustics and The Times called him "a gifted one-man band".

 

An experienced orchestral flautist and choral singer, he has also led sung congregational worship at churches since 2004, and released a self-produced solo album of worship songs with electro-folk influences (Unfailing Love). He co-wrote, performed and released music as bassist and singer with three-piece post-
punk electro outfit Personal Space Invaders until 2009 (Not My Boyfriend, 2009). With current band Ora Violet since 2019, he has performed at All Points East 2021 and BST Hyde Park 2022 as well as supporting Self Esteem at EartH and headlining The Old Blue Last in Summer 2022. Their current single Last Dance was released on 2 Dec 2022.
